DIY Waste Disposal at re3 Recycling Centres

As part of legislation that came into effect on 31 December 2023, residents of Bracknell Forest, Reading and Wokingham Boroughs can dispose of small amounts of DIY waste free of charge at the re3 Recycling Centres (Longshot Lane, Bracknell and Island Road, Reading).

Residents may bring up to 100 litres of loose DIY waste, or one large bulky item, per visit. This free allowance can be used up to four times within a four-week period. Any DIY waste that exceeds the free allowance will be chargeable at the standard rate.

Update from 1 December

From 1 December, the list of materials classified as DIY waste will be updated, in line with policies of many other local authorities. The free disposal allowance will remain unchanged, but items exceeding the allowance will incur a small charge to cover disposal costs.

This change ensure that all council taxpayers are not funding the disposal costs of those that are choosing to do their own DIY, and that the cost for the disposal of any excess from larger personal DIY projects are not impacting costs for everyone unfairly.

Items now classed as DIY waste include:

  • Hardcore and rubble
  • Plasterboard
  • Asbestos
  • Bathroom and kitchen items
  • Timber, windows and doors
  • Roofing materials
  • Other items such as turf and wood burners
