Since launching our Community re3Grow Scheme in May, we’ve received some fantastic feedback from the community groups who were awarded the compost as part of the scheme!
re3Grow compost is made from recycled garden waste which originates from residents of Bracknell Forest, Reading and Wokingham Boroughs. The provision of free compost is designed to promote recycling and community activities within the re3 area.
Check out some of the incredible things that our community groups have been doing with their compost below.
Jealotts Hill Community Landshare
Jealotts Hill Community Landshare work with volunteers who may be retired, isolated, visit with support as they may be living with health conditions or disabilities, probation services, schools and colleges and more.
Each group who has a group growing plot at the landshare has received a bag of compost, of which includes mental health support, recovery and rehab services, employment support, adult social care and more. The rest is being used to boost less nutritional growing areas and some seed sowing ongoing through the year.
4th Bracknell Scout Group
The 4th Bracknell Scout Group has started work on potting up some plants to go around their Scout Hut grounds and have also planted an Acer tree to plant in memory of their Group Scout Leader who sadly passed away in 2020. The compost will also help them with their annual fundraising plant sale that is one of their biggest fundraisers of the year, the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts all get involved planting seeds and then potting them on so that they have lots to sell!
The Foxes Den Café, Binfield
The Foxes Den Café in Binfield have been using their free re3Grow compost to help restock and nourish their ‘Mindfulness Garden’ in Binfield. This is a public space next to a cafe and playing field where folk can come and sit for a moment or two of calm. It was created in the first lockdown and became a very important little resting point for folk out on their daily exercise. It has a water feature, scented flowers, chimes and herbs.
Launchpad Reading
Launchapd are using their free compost on their charity allotment in Woodley. They invite groups from businesses who want to get out of the office and do some team building to come and help. All of the produce grown on the allotment is donated to a local foodbank, Readifood.
Growing Places Berkshire
Growing Places were awarded 50 compost bags and they are currently being used in their market garden! Growing Places’ have a team of adults with learning disabilities and their supporters enjoy growing all of the plants and vegetables and help sell them at the Acorn Centre in Woosehill Wokingham.
