On Thursday 17th February, St Edward’s Prep School in Reading attempted to break a new World Record with the ‘longest sentence ever made with plastic bottles.’
The previous record, held in Dubai in August 2020, was made with 2650 bottles and spelled out ‘we are all responsible’ in response to the Covid-19 Pandemic. However, St Edward’s Prep’s World Record attempt utilised a staggering 3325 plastic bottles to spell out ‘there is only one earth’! After being checked and counted by volunteers, the world record attempt has been submitted to Guinness World Records and is currently awaiting verification.
St Edward’s Prep’s headteacher Jonathon Parsons, explained ‘St Edward’s Prep wanted to make a big statement about climate change. This half term, all our children from our Nursery, to our year 6s have been learning about our planet and the importance of looking after it now. Within all of our studies we encourage the children to apply their learning and take action to make the world a better place. What better way of doing this than trying to break a record! Climate change is a problem that will hit their generation harder than ours and we wanted show them that they had a voice and they do not have to wait to make a difference – they can do it now.’
re3 were delighted to have been invited to assist with this World Record attempt. On Wednesday 23rd February, we took a recycling truck to St Edward’s Prep to bag and collect all of the plastic bottles that had been used. These bottles were then taken back to our Smallmead facility where they were recycled.
Congratulations once again to St Edward’s Prep!
